Sweet Southern Living Travel With Us Anna Ruby Falls in Helen Georgia

Anna Ruby Falls in Helen Georgia

We love to travel to new places and see new things. My bucket list includes places I don’t even know I want to see yet 😊

Most of the time, we plan out our trips before going and that includes some things we want to see and do; but now and then we want to wander without a plan. You know, just take a turn off the navigated route and drive. No plan, no map, just drive and see where we end up!

We have found so many of our now favorite spots this way. One of our most recent trips landed us at Anna Ruby Falls in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Helen, Georgia.

As the name indicates, there are two waterfalls there. They fall from what is know as Tray Mountain. The water flows over exposed granite down to the two  waterfalls. The tallest one flowing from Curtis Creek is over 150 foot tall! The smaller one that flows from York Creek has a 50 foot drop and together they meet to form Smith Creek at the base.

The path to the falls is a ½ mile paved trail.  It follows the beautiful Smith Creek and is worth the hike in itself!

The trail begins with Smokey the Bear; just in case you need a reminder that “only you can prevent forest fires” 🙂

Once on the trail, the first thing we saw was an old moonshine still. Not sure if it’s authentic but it’s really cool!

Did I mention how gorgeous it is!?!

Like I said, even if there wasn’t a fall at the end, we would have still walked the trail because of it’s beauty!

There are stone seats along the way if you need to take a break

The falls truly are majestic and a must see if you are in the area!

We were there in October but they say if you come in the Spring months, the falls flow more heavily and is a sight to see!

Thanks for stopping by!

Note: There is a small fee to walk to the falls (was $3 when we were there)

Have you ever been to the falls? Let me know in the comment section below!

Video of the Day is from Gatlinburg, Tennessee; another one of our favorite spots. Hope you enjoy!

While searching for a specialty store, I found that there was one in Helen. After seeing your post, I definitely need to take a day trip (maybe even a weekend trip) up there either this month or next. Thanks for sharing. As many times as I have been to Helen, I have not visited there and I LOVE waterfalls.
